SPEARIN NAMED 2023 IBL EXECUTIVE OF THE YEAR
The Intercounty Baseball League, Canada's premier baseball league, is pleased to announce Eric Spearin, Majority Owner and Managing Partner of the Hamilton Cardinals, as the 2023 Executive of the Year and the recipient of the David E. Hastings Trophy.
In Spearin's first full season at the helm, the Hamilton Cardinals experienced dramatic changes. These changes started in the 2022 off-season when the Cardinals introduced a contemporary black and red color scheme and a new logo. Fans were introduced to a revamped game-day experience, led by in-game host Emily Thompson and Game Day Operations Manager Joey Ransom. This season also marked the first time the organization has retired a jersey number as #13 was retired for legendary Cardinal Dean Dicenzo. Off the field, the organization embraced a series of changes, including a partnership with Ticketmaster for online ticket sales, a Shopify-powered online store, and a new concessions collaboration with Sammy's in Ancaster. The organization also partnered with Cable 14 to broadcast all home games on the network, broadening the team's viewership.
The city of Hamilton showed its support by undertaking a vibrant repainting of Bernie Arbour Stadium and ensuring its consistent ground maintenance. The community, along with sponsors, embraced the new-look Cardinals. As a result, the Cardinals shattered previous records in attendance, merchandise sales, and TV viewership in 2023, marking a standout year for the team.
Upon receiving the award, Spearin was quick to share the credit: "I am elated that our Hamilton Cardinals organization has received this award. It's heartening to see the dedication of our sponsors, staff, volunteers, front office, players, and most importantly, our fans, being recognized. I'd also like to extend my gratitude to the other league owners who have graciously provided us with a blueprint and guidance along the way. I genuinely believe that we are just beginning to realize the potential of the Hamilton Cardinals, and I am excited about the future of the club in our city!"
