Royals hand Cardinals their fourth straight loss

The Hamilton Cardinals lost 12-4 to the Guelph Royals (10-7) on Saturday, June 25 at David E. Hastings Stadium. 

Cardinals starting pitcher, Aaron Duffy, struck out nine batters in his five innings pitched while giving up two earned runs on five hits. 

The winning pitcher for Guelph was Emilis Guerrero who held Hamilton to just one run in his eight innings of work. Guerrero struck out eight and left eight stranded on the bases. 

Cardinals centrefielder, Justin Gideon, hit his team-leading sixth homerun of the year. Gideon is third in the IBL in homers and leads all Cardinals with 16 RBI’s. 

Third baseman, Sean Pettener, went two for three with a run for Hamilton. Designated hitter, Josh Niles, got his 11th hit of the season with a lead-off double in the top of the second inning.

Jacob Gajic (2-1) was credited with his first loss of the year after giving up three runs, none of which were earned. 

Notably, Malik Collymore, was two for four for Guelph, including three RBI’s and a triple. 

Hamilton now falls to 4-11 on the season and will look to bounce back at home on Sunday, June 26 at 2 p.m., when the Cards will face the London Majors (11-5).
