Matt Betts added to Cardinals Coaching Staff

The Hamilton Cardinals are pleased to announce the return of Matt Betts. This time though as a member of its coaching staff. Matt played 3 seasons (2011-14) as a pitcher with the Hamilton Cardinals and has spent the last 4 seasons with the Brantford Red Sox. In his 7 seasons in the IBL Matt has pitched in 123 games, 200 innings and has a record of 12-11 with 1 save and 111 career strikeouts. Matt spent 2010-2014 pitching at the U of West Alabama.

Matt is also the pitching coach with the U-18 Ontario Terriers as well as a lead writer for the Canadian Baseball Network.

"We are extremely lucky to add a coach like Matt. He has the experience within the league as a player, he has the respect among his peers in the league and also has been coaching at an elite level for a few seasons now. His knowledge in pitching will help our pitchers tremendously." said GM Jeff Lounsbury

Even though Matt has retired as a player Matt had this to say upon returning to Hamilton "I am excited to come back to Hamilton. Hamilton was the first team I played for in the IBL and it's exciting to be able to come back and make an impact from the coaching side. The organization is headed in the right direction and I look forward to helping the team take the next step."

The Hamilton Cardinals are members of Ontario's most elite baseball league. The Intercounty Baseball League. The 101 year old summer league is one of the oldest baseball leagues in the world, established in 1919.
