Jackfish take second half of home and home

The Hamilton Cardinals lost 12-4 to the Welland Jackfish on Thursday night at Welland Stadium.

Cardinals shortstop, David Ortiz hit a double and scored twice in his second IBL game. Ortiz also pitched two innings in relief of the starter Adrian Salcedo. 

Hamilton was outhit by Welland by a 16 to 7 margin, with both teams committing two defensive errors. 

Cardinals centrefielder, Justin Gideon, was two for four at the plate including a double to increase his average to .356 on the year. 

Matteo Porcellato, Sam Cawker, and Hogan Brown all recorded homeruns in the game for Welland. Ethan Hunt of the Jackfish was three for five with an RBI.

Tyler Duncan also recorded two hits for Hamilton and his ninth RBI of the campaign. 

Tristan Osika had a single and brought home his eighth RBI on the year. 

Closer, John Filice, pitched a scoreless ninth inning for the Cardinals, striking out two batters.

Cardinals first baseman, Josh Niles, also managed a hit and his ninth RBI, bringing his average to .302.

The Cardinals return home on Friday, July 8 at 7:35 p.m. against the Brantford Red Sox at CARSTAR Field at Bernie Arbour Memorial Stadium.
