Import Catcher Luis Bernardo Re-Signs with Cardinals

The Hamilton Cardinals have officially announced the re-signing of catcher Luis Bernardo for the 2024 season. At 36 years old, the San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic native will return to the Cardinals following his impactful debut in the IBL last season.

During the 2023 season, Bernardo demonstrated his prowess at the plate, hitting .289 with 6 home runs and 43 RBIs over 39 games. His presence was not only felt in batting but also in his defensive role. As a catcher, Bernardo was pivotal in leading the Cardinals' defense, showcasing his assertiveness in handling baserunners.

Prior to joining the Cardinals, Bernardo's professional journey included a significant tenure with the Baltimore Orioles organization. Signed by the Orioles in 2006, he spent six seasons within their minor league system, advancing as high as the Class-A Advanced level with the Frederick Keys. His experience and skill set are continued valuable assets for the Cardinals as they head into the 2024 season.

“Bernardo brings so much to the table for the organization. We’re fortunate to have him,” said George Halim, Hamilton Cardinals General Manager. “He’s arguably the best defensive catcher in the league, he can still hit and his leadership qualities are unmatched.”
