Duncan Powers Cardinals Past Baycats

The Hamilton Cardinals defeated the Barrie Baycats 4-2 for their first home win of the season.

The Cardinals battled back, being down a few different times to pull out the victory.

Hamilton’s right-fielder, Tyler Duncan had an outstanding game, going 4-for-4 including two triples and an RBI.

A strong start from Cardinals pitcher, Chris Lazar, kept Hamilton close all game. Lazar went seven innings, only conceding two runs on four hits, and striking out three.

Relief pitcher, Jacob Gajic, got credit for the win, he struck out the side in the top of the eighth.

In the bottom of the eighth, Hamilton rallied for three runs on three hits. Tyler Duncan tripled to tie the game and then catcher Jacob Underwood doubled to bring home the go-ahead-run.

Pinch hitter Julian Johnson hit a sacrifice fly ball to centerfield to add an insurance run.

In the top of the ninth, closer Daury Torrez shut the door on Barrie to seal the win for Hamilton

Notably, Luis Jean finished the day 2-for-4 with an RBI. Outfielders, Justin Gideon and Tyler Duncan also made some fantastic plays on defense to help win it for the Cards.

Gideon also walked three different times in the contest.

With this win, the Cardinals move to 2-3 on the season, good enough for fifth place in the Intercounty Baseball League standings.

The Baycats fall to 4-2 after losing their second straight game.

Hamilton will play again on Wednesday, June 1 at 8 p.m. on the road against the Brantford Red Sox.
