Chiaravalle, Miller and Strecker help Cards move to 3rd

HAMILTON – Jake Chiaravalle went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI to lead the Hamilton Cardinals to a 5-2 win over the Brantford Red Sox Sunday afternoon at Bernie Arbour Memorial Stadium.

Chris Beer, Grant Arnold and Connor Bowie drove in the other runs.

Clay Miller (2-0) struck out 11 over seven innings for the win. He allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits. Stefan Strecker threw two scoreless innings for his first save. He scattered two hits and struck out a pair as Hamilton moved to 5-3.

Red Sox starter Abel De Los Santos (0-1) gave up three runs on five hits in six innings. He walked five and struck out five.

Chris Iltshishin led the offence with two singles and a double. Austin Wilkie and Anthony Rizquez drove in Brantford's runs. The Red Sox have dropped nine straight after a season-opening win.
