Cards sweep Royals to move on to semi's

GUELPH – Hamilton became the first team to advance to the second round after sweeping the Guelph Royals in the quarter-final.

The Cardinals clinched the best-of-seven series with a 6-4 win Sunday afternoon at David E. Hastings Stadium.

Jake Foden went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run, while Luke Tevlin drove in a pair and scored. Connor Bowie tripled and scored twice, and Jake Chiaravalle added an RBI.

Chris Lazar (2-0) picked up the win, giving up two runs on seven hits in 5.1 innings. He walked two and struck out one. Kelvin Pichardo recorded the last six outs for his second save of the series. Pichardo allowed a run on one hit with two walks and three strikeouts.

Sean Reilly, Justin Interisano and Angel Villalona went deep for Guelph. Reilly finished 3-for-4, Interisano added a double, and Villalona also singled and drove in two. Josh Garton went 2-for-5 with a run. 

Edwin Javier (0-1) took the loss, giving up six runs (four earned) on five hits over six innings. He walked seven and struck out four.
