Cards Season Comes To An End
The Toronto Maple Leafs advanced to the Intercounty Baseball League's semifinal after an 8-2 win Friday night in Hamilton.
London received a bye after finishing first in the regular season, but the Leafs joined them following a two-game quarter-final sweep of the Cardinals. Justin Marra homered and drove in two to lead Toronto, which will face the second lowest remaining seed in the next round. Sean Reilly went 2-for-4 with two RBI, Johnathan Solazzo singled and scored twice, Dan Marra had two hits, two runs and an RBI, Chandler McLaren drove in a run and scored, and Connor Lewis singled twice and had an RBI and a run.
Justin Cicatello (1-0) threw seven shutout innings for the win. He scattered two hits while walking one and striking out three. Dustin Richardson struck out three of the four batters he faced for his first save of the playoffs.
For Hamilton, Justin Gideon went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI. Ryan Burnside doubled for Hamilton's only other hit.
Chris Lazar (0-1) allowed five runs on eight hits in seven innings, walking four and striking out seven.
