Cards Fall In Extras

The Hamilton Cardinals fell 4-3 in extra innings on the road at Vintage Throne Stadium to the Barrie Baycats on Saturday evening.

The Baycats blew their two to nothing lead in the top of the eighth, fell behind in the top of the tenth but rallied to win the game, in the bottom half of the tenth.

Cardinals’ starting pitcher, Sam Turcotte, pitched five innings, surrendering two runs on seven hits while striking out seven batters. 

Hamilton was held scoreless up until the eighth inning when Justin Gideon hit a two-run homerun to tie the game late. Gideon finished the game three for five including a double, a homerun and two RBI’s. Gideon is off to a great start to the season, already cashing in six runners in two games.  

Branfy Infante was the hero for Barrie as he hit a single to cash the game winning run in the bottom of the tenth. 

Baycats’ starting pitcher, Juan Benitez, pitched seven shutout innings, striking out six of the 26 batters he faced.

Barrie relief pitcher, Brad Grieveson, was credited with his first win of the season and Daury Torrez goes down as the losing pitcher. 

Cardinals’ shortstop, Tyler Duncan, went two for three with two singles in the game. 

Reliever, Drew Mainprize, threw two and two thirds innings of scoreless baseball, sitting down eight of the ten batters he faced. 

The Cardinals fall to 1-1 on the season with their home opener on Sunday, May 22 at Bernie Arbour Memorial Stadium. Hamilton will take on the Guelph Royals (0-0) at 2:05 p.m.
