Cardinals win on Canada Day to remain undefeated against Red Sox
The Hamilton Cardinals defeated the Brantford Red Sox 8-5 in a comeback victory at Arnold Anderson Stadium.
Drew Mainprize, Stefan Strecker and Daury Torrez pitched a combined four shutout innings and surrendering just one hit. Mainprize was credited with the win thanks to Tristan Osika scoring on a Justin Gideon strikeout in the eighth inning.
Cardinals third baseman, Laine Renaud, went two for three with a homerun and a double for two RBI’s and three runs. Tristan Osika went one for three with a double and a walk.
Hamilton starting pitcher, Owen MacNeil, pitched five innings, giving up five earned runs on eight hits, while striking out four. Sean Pettiner went one for two with two RBI’s and was also hit by a pitch twice.
Brantford first baseman, Nick Burdett, hit a three-run homerun for the Sox in the bottom of the first inning to put Brantford ahead early.
With this second consecutive win, Hamilton moves to 6-12 and just half a game back of the Kitchener Panthers.
The Cardinals return home on Sunday, July 3 at 2:05 p.m. to face the Barrie Baycats on “Hamilton Cardinals Support Ukraine Day” at Bernie Arbour Memorial Stadium. During the game the Cardinals will be selling yellow and blue ribbons for $5 and special ‘Hamilton Cardinals Support Ukraine’ t-shirts for $20. Funds raised from the sale of both items will go to the Canadian Ukraine Congress of Hamilton.
In honour of the special event, the Carmen's Group will be selling perogies during the July 3rd game.
