Cardinals unable to shut the door in loss to Toronto

The Hamilton Cardinals fell 8-7 to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Sunday afternoon. 

The Cardinals, at one point, led the game 6-1 but were the victims of an impressive comeback by Toronto. 

Cardinals centrefielder, Justin Gideon hit a homerun for the third consecutive game. Gideon leads all Cardinals with five homeruns on the year, Laine Renaud and Josh Niles both have a pair as well.

Hamilton took a 7-6 lead in the top of the ninth inning on an RBI single by Tyler Duncan. 

But, in the bottom of the ninth Justin Marra and Jordan Castaldo hit back-to-back solo homers to walk-off the game for the Maple Leafs. 

Cardinals starting pitcher, Sam Turcotte pitched five innings giving up one earned run on five hits. Daury Torrez was ultimately credited with the loss.

Cardinals left-fielder, Anthony Buonaiuto, went two for four, driving in three RBI’s on the day. 

With this loss, Hamilton drops to 4-8. The Cardinals have a few tough games ahead against London (9-4), Toronto (9-6) and Guelph (6-7). 

Tuesday, June 21 the team will head to Labatt Memorial Park to take on the London Majors at 7:30 p.m.

Then, the Cardinals will return home to Bernie Arbour Memorial Stadium on Friday, June 24 at 7:35 p.m. for a rematch with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
