Cardinals Sign Former Jays Pitcher

The Hamilton Cardinals are pleased to announce the signing of ex-Toronto Blue Jays left-handed pitcher Jose Fernandez (Mao, Dominican Republic). Fernandez is a 29-year-old left-handed pitcher who is 6’3” 215 lbs.

Fernandez made his MLB debut in 2018 with the Toronto Blue Jays, pitching in 13 games with an ERA of 6.10. In 2019, Fernandez pitched in 4 games for the Detroit Tigers. Originally signed by the Blue Jays in 2012, Fernandez moved up threw the Blue Jays minor league system before making his MLB debut in 2018. Fernandez made 233 appearances in the minors with a 13-13 record, 25 saves, and ERA of 3.84 and 309 strikeouts in 337.1 innings.

Fernandez was originally expected to be with the Cardinals in May, but his arrival was delayed to Canadian Visa issues.

The Cardinals (6-22) play their next game at home against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Fri, July 22 at 7:35 p.m. at Bernie Arbour Memorial Stadium.
