Cardinals sign catcher Andrew Johnston

The Hamilton Cardinals are excited to announce the signing of catcher Andrew Johnston.

At the age of 20, Andrew Johnston is set to fill one of the Junior spots on the IBL roster. Hailing from Toronto, Ontario, Johnston honed his skills at IMG Academy in Florida and with the Okotoks Dawgs. Standing 6’1 and weighing 220, Johnston has been known for his offensive talent. While at IMG, he had an impressive .448 batting average in and showcased his talents at the Toronto Blue Jays Academy Canadian Futures Showcase and the Prep Baseball Report Future Game.

Johnston's talent extends beyond North American borders, as he has also competed internationally, representing Team Great Britain. Following a season at NCAA Division I San Jose State in 2023, Johnston chose to stay closer to his roots, opting to continue his education and baseball career at the University of Guelph.

“AJ checks off what we’re looking for in a young catcher that we can dream on for years,” said George Halim, Hamilton Cardinals General Manager. “We know he can play, but he’s also got the personality and professional demeanor we’re looking for behind the plate.”

The Cardinals first home game is on Friday May 17th at 7:30pm against the Guelph Royals. Tickets are now available at CardinalsTickets.ca and the game will be available live on Cable14Now.com.
