Cardinals held scoreless against Baycats
The Hamilton Cardinals lost 3-0 to the Barrie Baycats (19-14) on Thursday night at Vintage Throne Stadium.
Barrie’s starting pitcher, Frank Garces, pitched seven scoreless innings, surrendering just four hits while striking out 12 and walking zero batters.
Brandon Hillier finished the job on the mound for the Baycats, pitching a scoreless eighth and ninth inning and giving up just two hits.
The Cards were narrowly outhit 9-6, but shortstop Luis Jean was the only Hamilton player with multiple hits, both being singles.
Adrian Salcedo started the game on the hill for Hamilton, he pitched five and a third innings, giving up two earned runs on eight hits and struck out five batters.
Cardinals’ relief pitcher, Jose Fernandez, continued to dominate in his innings of work, striking out five of the seven batters he faced.
Julian Russell also pitched two thirds of an inning for Hamilton without a hit or walk surrendered.
The Cardinals (6-25) play their next game against the London Majors (22-8) at Labatt Park on Fri, July 29 at 7:35 p.m.
