Cardinals fall to Jackfish at home

The Hamilton Cardinals lost 11-5 to the Welland Jackfish on Sunday afternoon at Bernie Arbour Memorial Stadium.

Cardinals right-fielder, Tyler Duncan, hit two doubles, scored and drove in one of Hamilton’s runs.

Hamilton took a 5-2 lead in the bottom of the third inning after trailing in the first.

Former Cardinals, Chris Lazar, got the win for Welland, pitching four scoreless innings from the fourth to the seventh.

Hamilton’s starting pitcher, Aaron Duffy, went four innings, giving up two earned runs on four hits, while striking out four and walking four batters.

In typical Welland fashion, the Jackfish had a hay day on the base paths, stealing nine bases and walking eight times.

Cardinals second baseman, Tristan Osika, had two RBI’s on his one hit, as Hamilton out-hit Welland 14-12.

Catcher, Jacob Underwood, had two hits and an RBI as well. All nine Cardinals batters got at least a hit in the game.

Third baseman, Ethan Hunt, was four for five for Welland, scoring three times and adding an RBI. Matteo Porcellato went two for five with three RBI’s and two runs for the Jackfish.

Cardinals reliever, Stefan Strecker, pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, surrendering no runs on one hit and striking out two batters.

The Cardinals (6-21) play their next game against the Guelph Royals (16-9) at Hastings Stadium on Tues, July 19 at 7:35 p.m.
