Cardinals fall to Barrie 5-0
HAMILTON – The Hamilton Cardinals dropped a 5-0 decision to the defending champion Barrie Baycats Sunday at Carstar Field at Bernie Arbour.
Chris Lazar got the start for the Cardinals allowing five runs on nine hits over five innings for the loss. Clay Miller threw two shutout innings adding three strikeouts while Dan Connerty and Ben Braun both threw one shutout inning each.
The Cardinals stranded 11 runners in total. Jon Dziomba went 3-for-4 with two singles and a double. Connor Patterson (2-for-4) added a pair of singles while Justin Gideon, Chris Beer and Luke Tevlin added one hit each.
Barrie's Santos Arias and Emilis Guerrero combined to throw an eight-hit shutout. Arias scattered seven hits over five innings, striking out three and walking three. Guerrero earned his first save after four innings of one-hit ball and five strikeouts.
At the plate, the Baycats Starlin Rodriguez hit a three-run home run with one out in the third inning. Ryan Spataro went 4-for-5 with an RBI and a run, and Parker Walker had an RBI single and scored twice.
The Cardinals next home action is May 31st at 7:30pm when they host the Welland Jackfish at Carstar Field at Bernie Arbour.
