Cardinals fall behind early in losing effort to Barrie

The Hamilton Cardinals lost 11-4 to the Baycats on Thursday night in Barrie.

Barrie’s starting pitcher, Juan Benitez, pitched seven innings for the Baycats, giving up 11 hits.

Cardinals lead off men, Justin Gideon (3rd HR) and Josh Niles (2nd HR) mashed back-to-back, solo homeruns in the top of the third inning.

In the bottom half of the third, Cardinals right fielder, Tyler Duncan made an incredible head-first diving catch in right centre.

Josh Niles stayed hot at the plate, going three for five with an RBI.

In the bottom of the fourth, catcher, Aidan Muir made a great throw to catch a runner attempting to steal second base.

The Cardinals comeback attempt would come up short after leaving the bases loaded in the sixth inning.

Anthony Buonaiuto and Tristan Osika both went two for four, while Tyler Duncan was one for four with an RBI.

Cardinals third baseman, Laine Renaud also record a hit and an RBI.

Relief pitcher, Gabe Braun, pitched 1.1 shutout innings for Hamilton in part of the fifth and sixth innings.

With this loss, the Cardinals record drops to (3-7) on the year. Hamilton will return to Bernie Arbour Memorial Stadium on Friday, June 17 at 7:35 p.m. to face the Kitchener Panthers (5-6).
