Cardinals end Jackfish's streak
WELLAND – The streak is over.
After 12 straight wins, Welland is back in the losing column after a 4-3 defeat to Hamilton on Canada Day.
Luis Bernardo, Cole Iantomasi and Connor Hicks each drove in a run and scored for Hamilton (10-9).
Zach Cameron (1-0) picked up the win in 1.2 scoreless innings, striking out two. Mizuki Akatsuka started and went seven innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits with seven strikeouts.
Welland starter Ben Abram (5-1) went the distance in a hard-luck loss. Abram struck out 10 while giving up four runs (three earned) on four hits with a walk.
Steven Moretto and Robert Mullen each had an RBI for Welland (15-4), which also lost at home for the first time this season. Jake Sanford went 3-for-4 with two runs.
