Cardinals Edge Majors
Despite only collecting two hits, Hamilton Cardinals' hitters took advantage of nine walks and an error to edge London 6-5 Sunday afternoon at Bernie Arbour Memorial Stadium.
Austin Wheeler singled and drove in two for the Cardinals. Jeremie Veilleux and Ryan Burnside drove in the other runs. Laine Renaud scored twice and stole a base.
Chris Lazar (3-2) earned the win, giving up a run on one hit and a walk in two innings. Stefan Strecker picked up his third save, allowing an unearned run on one hit with a strikeout. Ben Braun started and went six innings, allowing three runs on six hits. He walked four and struck out two.
London's Pedro De Los Santos (5-1) took his first loss after allowing six runs (five earned) on two hits in six innings. He walked nine and struck out six in a 136-pitch effort.
Offensively, Byron Reichstein doubled twice and drove in a run, Carlos Arteaga went 2-for-5 with two RBI and two runs, Chris McQueen had two hits and scored twice, and Julian Johnson added an RBI.
Hamilton moved to 9-10, and London slipped to 12-5.
The Cardinals next game is on Tuesday August 17th when they host the Toronto Maple Leafs at CARSTAR Field starting at 7:35pm.
