Cardinals Drop Game To Red Sox

BRANTFORD -- After losing games in which it led early, the Brantford Red Sox flipped the script against Hamilton to pick up its first win of the season Sunday afternoon, beating the Cardinals 7-5 at Arnold Anderson Stadium.

The bottom of Brantford's order did most of the offensive damage. Colton Fountain, the No. 6 hitter, went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Jesse Fishbaum followed Fountain and had three hits, scoring twice and driving in one. Michael Deluca, the eighth hitter, went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Gianfranco Morello, Liam Sutherland and No. 9 hitter Zach Lampreia drove in the other runs.

Brantford, trailing 5-1 in the bottom of the sixth, scored six straight runs over its last three at bats to improve to 1-4.

Nick Davies (1-1) earned the win in relief,  finishing the game with three scoreless innings. He allowed just two hits, walking two and striking out four. Adam Jafine started and went six innings, giving up five runs (two earned) on seven hits with a walk and five strikeouts.

Josh Niles led the Cards (2-3) with two RBI. Tristan Osika drove in the other run. Justin Gideon and Laine Renaud each had a pair of hits. Renaud also scored twice.

Jacob Gagic (0-1) allowed two runs (one earned) in an inning of work to take the loss. He struck out two and allowed one hit. Cards' starter Owen Macneil gave up three runs on four hits in 5.2 innings, walking one and striking out five.
