Cardinals drop final regular season game to Welland

The Hamilton Cardinals lost 13-6 to the Welland Jackfish (31-11) in the last game before the 2022 IBL Playoffs on Sunday afternoon at Bernie Arbour Memorial Stadium. 

Cardinals leftfielder, Dennis Dei Banning, hit homeruns in back-to-back at bats for the second time in four games. Dei Baning was four for four against his former team, with three RBI’s, three stolen bases, and a walk in the game.

Jackfish pitcher, Mike Wagner, got the win for Welland after going five innings, giving up three runs on eight hits and striking out four batters.

First baseman, Ethan Seymour, got his first career hit and first career double in the game, going two for four. 

Robin Fox-Pappas and Laine Renaud both hit doubles as well, as Hamilton was outhit 15-10.

Relief pitcher, Spencer Bak, struck out six Welland batters in his three innings of work and surrendered four hits.

Former Cardinal, Justin Gideon, hit a homerun deep to rightfield against Hamilton, a solo shot and his 19th homer of the season.

Stefan Strecker (1.80 ERA) pitched the eighth inning, giving up one run on three hits, striking out one and walking one more.

Luis Jean had a hit, two stolen bases and also pitched the ninth inning for Hamilton.

The Cardinals will start the 2022 IBL playoffs with a road game against either Guelph, Welland or London depending on the final standings.
