Cardinals down Welland 4-1
HAMILTON – Hamilton southpaw starter Clay Miller allowed an unearned run and struck out four to lead the Cardinals to a 4-1 win over the visiting Welland Jackfish Friday night at Carstar Field at Bernie Arbour Stadium. With the win, Hamilton improves to 3-2.
Miller (1-0) scattered five hits over 7.1 innings and didn't issue a walk. Longtime IBL veteran Stefan Strecker closed out the eighth inning striking out one, while Tanner Guindon picked up his first save, throwing a scoreless inning and striking out two around a walk and hit allowed.
Offensively, Chris Beer and Jake Foden each had an RBI. Justin Gideon doubled, stole two bases and scored twice, while Jon Dziomba went (2-for-4) with a run.
Nate Mastervick scored Welland's lone run.
Welland's Euclides Leyer (1-1) took the loss, yielding four runs (three earned) on five hits over six innings. He walked two and struck out five.
The Cardinals return to action Sunday, June 2nd at 2pm when they host the Guelph Royals.
