Cardinals Doubled Up By Royals

The Hamilton Cardinals lost 8-4 to the Guelph Royals at David E. Hastings Stadium on Saturday afternoon. 

The Royals scored their eight runs on 13 hits while making no errors. 

Claudio Custodio was the winning pitcher for Guelph, conceding just three runs on six hits, striking out 12.

Cardinals centrefielder, Justin Gideon, hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth to score Sean Pettiner. Gideon leads the Cardinals with nine RBI’s and two home runs on the season.

Josh Niles and Tyler Duncan also hit a home runs for Hamilton, but the Cardinals were only able to get four runs on seven hits. 

Hamilton’s starter, Sam Turcotte was credited with the loss, pitching 3.2 innings with four earned runs on nine hits. Turcotte also struck out five batters and walked three.

Guelph’s Ethan Hammond was three for four in the game with two doubles and two RBI’s. 

Reliever Drew Mainprize pitched two clean innings for the Cardinals, only giving up one hit.

Custodio was credited with the win and also went two for four with two RBI’s.

The Cardinals fall to 2-6 with this loss and will play the Welland Jackfish at home on June 12 at 2 p.m.
