Barnstormers outlast Cardinals on Sunday afternoon

HAMILTON – The losing streak is over.

After seven straight losses, Chatham-Kent found its way back into the win column with a 7-5 victory Sunday in Hamilton.Spencer Marcus went 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBI for the Barnstormers (3-7). Seth Strong added a solo home run and Daniel Battel singled twice and scored.

Noah Richardson (1-0) earned the win in relief, giving up three runs on four hits over four innings. He walked one and struck out eight. Garret Day struck out two for his second save. Barnstormers’ starter Brock Whitson allowed a pair of unearned runs over four innings. He scattered four hits, walked two and struck out two.

For Hamilton (6-4), Tyler Duncan hit two solo home runs and added a single. Connor Hicks also went deep with the bases empty. Zach Marriott and Tanner Rempel drove in the other runs.

Stefan Strecker took the loss, giving up two runs in one-third of an inning. Brett Lawson started and went six innings, allowing five runs on nine hits with two walks and four strikeouts.
