Hamilton Cardinals Sign Niko Kekatos for 2025 Season

The Hamilton Cardinals are excited to announce the signing of outfielder Niko Kekatos, a standout hitter with an impressive track record in both OUA baseball and the WCBL.

In the summer of 2024, Kekatos shone as one of the top performers in the Western Canadian Baseball League (WCBL) with the Weyburn Beavers. Over 33 games, he posted a .397 batting average, collecting 46 hits, 9 doubles, 3 home runs, and 16 RBIs. His consistency at the plate was highlighted by an incredible 31-game streak of reaching base.

A Toronto native, Kekatos also excelled at the University of Toronto with the Varsity Blues, earning OUA Most Valuable Hitter honors for the 2021-2022 season. Over three collegiate seasons, he had a career .457 batting average, amassing 61 hits, 11 doubles, 2 triples, 1 home run, and 35 RBIs, along with a .556 on-base percentage. Beyond his hitting prowess, Kekatos brings versatility, with the ability to play outfield, first base, and third base, making him a valuable addition to the Cardinals’ roster.

“Niko is coming off an outstanding season with Weyburn in the WCBL, and we’re excited he’s decided to continue his baseball journey with Hamilton, close to home,” said Cardinals Owner Eric Spearin. “He’s been a player we’ve had on our radar since last season, and we’re confident he’ll make a strong impact in his first IBL season. Niko has excelled as a hitter at every level, and I fully expect him to do the same with us.”
