Cardinals fly past Maple Leafs
HAMILTON - Andrew Johnston hit his second and third home run of the season to help lead the Hamilton Cardinals to an 18-5 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs Wednesday during INtercounty Baseball League action. Luis Bernardo started things with a solo home run in the first inning before they tacked on three more in the second. Andrew Johnston and Tyler Duncan had two-run blasts in the third inning to give the Cardinals more cushion. The Maple Leafs attempted a comeback in the seventh inning when they scored five runs, led by Dionysius Chialtas’s three-run homer.
Takaki Eguchi got the win on the mound striking out four in six innings of work, while Landon Leach was tagged with the loss. The Cardinals improve to 15-9 and host the London Majors on Thursday at 7:35 p.m. The Maple Leafs drop to 12-22 and hit the road Saturday at 7:05 p.m. to take on the Chatham-Kent Barnstormers.
